Gardening with
Kids
These days, it's getting harder and harder to
actually keep your children entertained. While it's true that you can simply turn on the TV set and
walk out of the room, the reality is that this doesn't let your children get the exercise they
need, or the interaction they need with you in order to feel loved and appreciated.
It's better to find a group activity that lets
your child spend time with you, and if you can work in a bit of exercise in the process -- all the
better. If you've already gone through the usual outdoor activities, there's one that you might
want to actually put into practice as soon as possible: gardening.
|
Now, you might assume that your children aren't going to have the skills to
garden properly, but the truth is that gardening is a lot easier than it seems. Sure, your children won't be
planting any blue ribbon gardens anytime soon, but that doesn't meant you can't get them started in the right
direction.
Basic gardening supplies are needed, such as storage garden boxes, but the biggest contribution
to gardening will simply be your child's willingness to go out and really connect with the soil and the land. If
you've always wanted to become more environmentally friendly, you will definitely want to start gardening with your
kids.
So, what can you actually plant with your children? You can start
out small with a few herbs and some hardy plants, like geraniums, pansies, primroses, and even marigolds. Any
annual plant is a good one to plant with your children. If you want to challenge your children, planting vegetables
like tomatoes is also a good way to go.
The types of plants that you can grow will depend on the land you
have to spare for the gardening project with your children. However, even if you live in an apartment you don't
have to give up your dream of gardening with your kids.
You can always build a nice container garden in a room that has plenty of
sunlight, making sure that you still build quality memories with your child. Of course, if you can go outside
and start your garden, this is the best option -- after all, the mission here is to get your children outside
as much as possible.
When you first start out gardening with your kids, it's important
to make sure that you don't rush them along in any way. Indeed, it's better to make sure that you remind your
children that gardening is a process that is far from overnight, so it will take time before they actually see any
results.
Of course, you can also use the time before the flowers bloom to
give your kids a quick lesson in how plants grow in the first place, as well as the different stages they can
expect to see. As you can see, gardening can be both fun and educational!
All things considered, gardening is a wonderful way to spend more
time with your children while getting them excited about the world around them. If you follow the tips here in this
guide, you'll have no problem getting your kids excited about gardening!
